The blade of this the Nestucca Cleaver 15100-1 is made from a CPM S30V steel which has been hardened to a HRC 58-60. This steel has been created by Crucible Industries especially for top quality pocket knives and kitchen cutlery. It provides the excellent qualities you require from a knife. According to Crucible, this steel is a martensitic stainless steel that provides an optimal blend of toughness, durability, and corrosion resistance. It contains a balanced combination of components which encourages the formation of vanadium carbides, which are tougher and more effective than chromium carbides in resisting wear. CPM S30V offers greater durability than other high hardness steels such as 440C and D2, and its protection against corrosion is equivalent to or superior to 440C in various conditions. This steel is extremely resistant to corrosion, reducing the need for blade maintenance. This is an ideal quality.

the Nestucca Cleaver 15100-1 has a full tang, meaning that instead of a handle, it has handle scales. These handle scales are crafted from G10 and are designed to resemble wood handles, giving the knife a classic hunting knife look. G10 is a type of Garolite and is a composite made from fiberglass resin, similar to carbon fiber, but cheaper in price. It still needs to be cut and machined, which is more costly than fabricating FRN, but it is an ideal material for a hunting knife as it is robust, hard, and strong, yet lightweight. Additionally, G10 is non-absorbent and therefore requires less maintenance on extended hunting trips.
