What are the Project X Knives from Hinderer Knives?

The Hinderer Project X EDC folding knife is very rare and hard to find for sale. The Hinderer Project X is ideal for any situation and contains a variety of new features while still showcasing the award-winning Hinderer pedigree. The clip point blade design gives it the ability to have a high grind, making it suitable for cutting. With a blade thickness of .165, it’s durable yet light in weight. The handle is ergonomically designed, taking into account the idea that a knife should be easy to use.

When you hold the Hinderer Project X knife, it fits snugly and securely, with enough texture on both sides of the handle to prevent slipping, while the flipper/guard keeps your hand away from the blade. The solidly-built pivot allows for the most intense work and the Triway pivot system is also present, as well as the Hinderer Lockbar Stabilizer. Additionally, there is a patented Hinderer Modular Backspacer System which makes it easy to take apart the entire knife for cleaning or adding additional accessories.

The Hinderer Project X is an extremely adjustable pocket knife that is suitable for any situation! It has a great many new features and still preserves the acclaimed Hinderer history. The clip point design and considerable width of the knife offer a great high grind that allows for great cutting power. Additionally, the ideal thickness of .165 makes it tough, yet not too heavy.

Hinderer Project X review

The Hinderer Project X is a notable addition to the Rick Hinderer Knives lineup, designed to commemorate the brand’s 35th anniversary. It features a 3.66-inch blade, which aligns with the size of the iconic XM-18 series, and uses a .165″ blade stock, balancing robustness with slicing efficiency. The knife is crafted from S45VN steel, a modern choice reflecting its contemporary status. It’s a flipper-only model equipped with the Tri-Way pivot system, allowing users to customize the pivot’s bushing with options like phosphor bronze, Teflon, and bearing washers for varied deployment preferences.

The Project X stands out with its unique ergonomic design, reminiscent of a Bowie fixed blade, characterized by a pronounced guard and a mild butt end, contributing to its distinctive silhouette within the Hinderer collection. The knife’s aesthetic is further enhanced by oversized screws on the handle, providing visual symmetry, while the titanium locking side features texturing, a steel lock bar interface, and Hinderer’s overtravel stop for durability and ease of use. The knife also includes the Hinderer Modular Backspacer system, with one option being a tool for on-the-go disassembly, a feature first seen on the Full Track model.

Although the first batch of Project X knives sold out quickly upon release, there are indications that more units and possibly variations in terms of steel and handle finishes will be available in the future.

As is always the case with RHK folders, the Hinderer Project X‘s ergonomics are well taken care of, and the same is true with the Project X; however, its overall shape is something that we haven’t seen before in the Hinderer collection. Perhaps it’s the clip blade that has us thinking like this, but the handle profile looks a bit like what you could find on a Bowie fixed blade, with a low arc between the guard and the mild butt end beak. The oversized front-and-back end screws make the otherwise plain front scale look attractive and give the Hinderer Project X an attractive visual symmetry; the titanium locking side is textured and equipped with both a steel lock bar interface and the Hinderer overtravel stop.
